Faithbook of Jesus: Blog Tour & Book Review

Renee Johnson is a 20-something writer who is passionate about discipleship, especially for those in her own generation. In an effort to draw them into the discipline of daily meditation, scripture reading, and community discussion she wrote The Faithbook of Jesus.

A one-year devotional, Faithbook starts off each day with a scripture verse with four to five reflective paragraphs capturing themes that are relevant to spiritual, emotional and relational development. The remainder of the page is filled with quotes by an actual members of the 20-something generation, short prayers, and suggestions for additional scripture reading.

What may really help a socially connected generation make good use of this devotional is the community section. Renee has created a website, www.faithbookofjesus.com, where readers can share their own thoughts about the daily theme. I think readers will experience that more important than writing books, Renee is eager to connect with others in their faith journey. This book and her website are going to be great tools to meet that goal.

Another gift is Renee’s vulnerability. Although the devotions are full of hope, this writer isn’t afraid to be real. She is open about her struggles, both in the past as well as the current questions she is struggling with. This helps her devotional come across as a guide instead of a destination.

You can order this new devotional at Amazon.com; it releases the week of March 7th and is already in its second press run. I know that NavPress is pleased, Renee is excited, and Jesus is smiling.
Ps. I don't know if it is just me, but the illustration on the cover reminds me of an ice-cream sandwich. I think this was a clever way to get my attention. Renee is a tricky one!
